Westlake actually is a large area with many smaller subdivisions, some having spectacular views and Lake Austin waterfronts. Its winding roads, canyons, and creeks, together with its natural vegetation that screens many homes from street view, make Westlake very interesting, and even confusing to drive in.
Westlake Hills is in the highly acclaimed Eanes Independent School District. Many, many families have moved to Westlake just so their children can attend school there.
West of Loop 1 and the Colorado River, this area was much less convenient to access than it is now, with Bee Caves Road being its main thoroughfare. Now it’s just a hop, skip, and a jump to downtown Austin, Zilker Park and Barton Springs.
Homes in Westlake were built beginning in the early 1960s on large lots that are very valuable now. Today many of the original homes have been torn down to construct much larger and more expensive homes. Homes range in price from the $200s for older condos to the millions. One of its largest homes belongs to a high tech billionaire and is located on one of the highest hills in Westlake.
