Anderson Mill is named after Thomas Anderson, a pioneer who moved to Texas in the 1850s. During the Civil War he had a gunpowder mill here for the Confederate Army and following the war, converted it to a gristmill. A cotton gin was started later and in 1884 there were only about 30 people living there. With Anderson’s death in 1894 the community was abandoned. Not until decades later was the area, called Anderson’s Mill, to experience huge growth with homes, churches, and shopping.
